The city of Makeyevka is situated in the south-eastern part of Ukraine within latitude 48° North and longitude 38° East, in south-western part of Donetsk mountain-ridge within Kalmius-Torez hydrogeological basin.
City area: 425.6 sq. km.
Population: 407.3 thousand people
Makeyevka covers 1.6% of the territory and has 9% of the population of the region. Coal-mining reaches almost 10%, coke production is 1/5 and investment goes up to 7.5% of the total regional.
According to administrative and territorial division, Makeyevka comprises five rayons (Tsentralno-Gorodskoy, Gornyatsky, Kirovsky, Sovietsky, Chervonogvardeisky), 32 settlements and villages consolidated into five settlement soviets and one village soviet.
Makeyevka is one of Ukraine's cities to pioneer the development and adoption of Territorial Gromada Statute.
Makeyevka city has its own symbols - the emblem, flag and anthem.
Makeyevka is a city where the system of municipal services quality management is inculcated in accordance with ISO 9001:2000 international standard. In 2006 Makeyevka got the corresponding certificate.
